The World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) published the new world rankings and Peru is ranked on position 21 (out of 37) above other countries like Russia and France.
The Peruvian selection of women's softball participated for the first time in its history at a world championship held in Canada last July and this achievement laid the foundation to appear among the top 25 nations. The team had to face world powers such as Italy (the current European champion) and New Zealand. The Peruvians achieved four consecutive victories against Kenya, India, Ireland and France.
Along with Peru, 16 other countries made their debut in this list: Philippines, Austria, Greece, Guatemala, Ecuador, France, Korea, Uganda, Serbia, Ireland, Switzerland, Kenya, Singapore, India and Israel.
Undoubtedly this is an important result for the country after the International Olympic Committee announced that softball will be one of the 5 new sports presented at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
