Peruvians abroad sent more money back home

Amounts of money transferred to support relatives in Peru increased

In the first quarter of 2017, Peruvians living abroad send a total of US$706 million to relatives in Peru, an increase of 5.1% from the same period in 2016.

44.6% of the total was wired via money transfer companies, while 39.3% were transferred through banks.

Peruvians living in the US sent US$ 264 million, an increase of 7.3%, back home, while those living in Chile transferred US$ 77 million (up 17.7%), those in Japan US$ 50 million (an increase of 1.7%) and those being in Argentina US$ 41 million (+26.4%).

On the other hand, Peruvian expats in Italy send US$ 55 million to relatives in Peru in the first quarter of 2017, a minus of 12.3% and those living in Spain wired US$ 59 million, a decline of 2.7%.
