For the second consecutive month Viva Air Peru, the country’s first low-cost airline which started operation in 2017, could rank top in the Latin America and Caribbean Punctuality Report of airlines operating in Peru in March 2018.
The prestigious ranking published monthly by OAG, the leading global provider of digital flight information, is based on the best on-time performance (OTP) for the world’s largest airlines and airports. % OTP is the percentage of flights that depart or arrive within 15 minutes of schedule.
And even though airlines operating in Peru surely aren’t known for their punctuality or reliability and globally appear among the “also rans”, in Peru Viva Air at least in March 2018 was with a 74.0% on time performance and a 3.2% cancellation rate on their 438 national flights the number 1 (rank 28 in Latin America and the Caribbean).
On second position is Peruvian Airlines with a 50.6% on time performance and a 4.2% cancellation rate on their 1,765 national flights (rank 39 in Latin America and the Caribbean).
Star Peru with a 45.0% on time performance and a 0% cancellation rate on their 522 national flights ranks third in Peru (rank 41 in Latin America and the Caribbean) followed by LC Peru with a 41.9% on time performance and a 12.8% cancellation rate on their 1,426 national flights (rank 43 in Latin America and the Caribbean)
For whatever reasons LATAM Peru isn’t listed in the report; however the LATAM Airlines Group, which operates the greatest volume of flights in Latin America and numerous in Peru, globally ranked with a 79.39% on time performance 8th among the Top 20 mega airlines by OTP in 2017 and 7th among Latin American airlines by OTP in 2017.
