For years there have been rumors and announcements that the one or other airline in Peru initiates a flight route between Lima and Chachapoyas.
Last year for example two Peruvian airlines announced plans to offer flights from Lima via Trujillo and / or Chiclayo to Chachapoyas shortly, just to never be heard of it again.
With the will and strategies to not only rely on Machu Picchu in the future to attract foreign visitors, but also to boost Peru tourism in general and promote also lesser known, but surely not lesser impressive sights in Peru, the topic of flights from Lima to Chachapoyas, which would significantly reduce the travel time and facilitate the access to nearby Kuelap, Gocta Waterfalls and the Sarcophagi of Karajia, once again came up.
Yesterday, April 28, 2017 Eduardo Ferreyros, Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, stated that already in May direct flights from Lima’s Airport in Callao to Chachapoyas will be offered. He continued that negotiations with the Ministry of Transport and Communication are well underway and he expects to be able to announce the good news of a direct flight route from Lima to Chachapoyas with small aircrafts in May.
As we are already waiting so long for this and heard so many announcements about this plan, let’s hope the minister was talking about May 2017.
