Just recently the Peruvian Ministry of Culture announced new entry fees for Machu Picchu coming into effect on January 1st, 2017. As already in the previous year visitors can’t just buy one entrance ticket and have access to all parts of the Inka citadel, but have to choose between 6 different ticket options allowing them entrance to different areas at different times.
Tickets for a visit to Machu Picchu have to be bought either online on the official website of the Peruvian Ministry of Culture available in Spanish, English, Portuguese and Italian or at authorized travel agencies (some as well offer online purchases). As the number of tickets per day is restricted, it is highly recommended to plan your trip to Machu Picchu well in advance and buy tickets early.
Following entrance tickets are offered:
Machu Picchu ticket
This ticket allows visitors to enter only the actual archaeological site of Machu Picchu including the main attractions Intihuantana stone, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Sun Temple, the Chamber of Ornaments, the Temple of the Condor, the Sacred Main Plaza and the Agricultural Zone, but without climbing Machu Picchu mountain or Huayna Picchu mountain. Only 2500 tickets are available per day

Machu Picchu afternoon ticket
As the Machu Picchu ticket described above, this ticket only allows visitors to enter the actual archaeological site and nothing else, but only after 01.00 pm. Just 1000 tickets per day are available.

Machu Picchu & Huayna Picchu ticket (group 1 and group 2)
This ticket includes to enter the archaeological site of Machu Picchu and climb the Huayna Picchu mountain including the Temple of the Moon and breathtaking views down to the Inca City. Only 400 visitors are allowed to conquer the mountain each day, divided into 2 groups with 200 people each. Group 1 has to be at the foot of the Huayna Picchu between 07.00 am and latest 08.00 am, while group 2 starts between 10.00 am and 11.00 am. Be well on time otherwise you might be denied entry. The way up to the summit is steep and narrow with steps carved into rock. Depending on your physical condition plan with about 1 h to 1 ½ hours to conquer the 360 m altitude difference between Machu Picchu and the summit of Huayna Picchu mountain and the same amount of time for the descent.

Machu Picchu & Machu Picchu mountain ticket (group 1 and 2)
This ticket allows visitors to enter the archaeological site of Machu Picchu and climb the Machu Picchu mountain that rises more than 650 m above the Inka citadel. While the ascend to the summit is longer (calculate around 2 to 2 ½ hours and approx. the same time for the descend) than the climb of the Huayna Picchu, the route is considered less demanding, less steep and less crowded. Visitors of Machu Picchu mountain are rewarded with walking on old Inca paths, hiking surrounded by amazing native vegetation, discovering the Sun Gate, where the Inca Trail enters the site, and breathtaking views over the neighboring mountains and down to Machu Picchu. Only 800 visitors per day are allowed to climb Machu Picchu mountain, divided into 2 groups of 400 climbers each. Group 1 can start between 07.00 am and latest 08.00 am, while group 2 may leave the foot of the mountain between 09.00 am and 10.00 am. Don’t be late.
