An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter Scale shock the province of Ucayali this morning. At 08.30 am the quake hit the National Park of Alto Purus and was measured to have originated in a depth of 550 km.
According to the Peruvian Geophysik Institute (IGP) the tremor had an intensity of III-IV in Esperanza, capital of the Purus province, which is located about 100 km northeast of the epicenter bordering Brazil.
So far no damages or injuries have been reported.
Earthquakes are common occurrences in Peru. In 2016 around 400 earthquakes occurred leaving thousands of buildings destroyed or damaged and causing injuries to many Peruvians and unfortunately even a few deaths.
