Each year in the first half of June the Q’eswachaka Bridge, the last remaining Inca rope bridge, is rebuild in a traditional ceremony just like over 600 years ago during Incan rule.

And while the bridge can be visited year-round as part of a booked tour or independently, being part of the whole reconstruction process starting with the traditional cutting of the ropes of the old bridge, letting it fall into the Apurimac River below, preparing the ropes and then rebuilding the bridge, all which is accompanied by ancient ceremonies, is a truly amazing and magical experience.

More information about the Q’eswachaka Bridge, its history and the tradition of rebuilding it can be found in our article “Traditional rebuilding of the Q’eswachaka Bridge”.
