On August 15, Arequipa celebrates its 477-foundation anniversary. To ring in the festivities for this special occasion Peru’s second largest city organizes a huge parade, the IX Pasacalle Regional 2017 a week prior.
The folkloric parade is Arequipa’s most important cultural event of the year. More than 2000 artists present locals and visitors traditional dances, music and costumes from the 8 different provinces of the Arequipa region.
This year the parade runs along Av. Independencia and for the first time won’t include Arequipa’s main square.
